On Tuesday, Kent County voters went to the ballot box and approved a millage proposal to give 20 schools an additional $19.9 million in annual funding for the next 10 years. Winning Connections was happy to partner with the Yes for Kids campaign to educate, engage, and persuade voters to support strong schools and strong communities.
Since 2008-09, state funding has not kept up with inflation, causing districts to reduce or eliminate programs and staffing, while schools suffered. Our calls created one-on-one connections with voters, explaining how education raises the quality of life in West Michigan, making it a great place to raise a family. This proposal will also increase career training and technical course offerings, giving students real life on-the-job training and a head start on a career and college.
After a robust get out the vote effort, the final vote tally had 39,996 in support and 34,193 against. We were so proud to be part of this effort, and count this vote as a major victory for Kent County students and families.
