LGBT Americans Deserve Equal Protection Under the Law
On July 23, US House and Senate Democrats introduced the most expansive LGBT rights bill ever–the Equality Act.
Democrats now are determined to expand the 1964 Civil Rights Act, and build on the Supreme Court’s landmark marriage equality decision in June, to protect all US citizens from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. These comprehensive protections extend to the workplace, housing, hotels, public accommodations, education, and many other settings.
Winning Connections worked with the Human Rights Campaign to successfully communicate with more than 500,000 HRC members and supporters about the importance of this legislation. Members were given the opportunity to patch-through to House of Representatives offices and urge their Congressperson to support the Equality Act.
Chad Griffin, President of the Human Rights Campaign warns that, “While marriage equality was a massive and monumental victory, this fact remains true today: In the majority of states in the country, a couple who gets married at 10 a.m., risks being fired from their jobs by noon, or evicted from their homes by two, simply for posting that wedding photo on Facebook.”
We are proud to work with such a great organization as HRC and look forward to continuing the fight for LGBT Americans equal protection under the law.
“Thanks to the whole Winning Connections team for your work that allowed us to successfully communicate with so many HRC members and supporters yesterday. We were extremely pleased with the introduction of the Equality Act and were glad to have you as part of the team.” – Jeremy Pittman, Deputy Field Director.
