The Golden Rule, “treat others the way you’d like to be treated,” is a foundational principle of our society. Unfortunately, this simple rule is often not applied to members of the LGBT community. A 2014 survey found that 65% of transgender people living in Massachusetts experienced discrimination in areas of public accommodation. Freedom Massachusetts is working to change this.
Currently, there are no laws in Massachusetts protecting transgender people from discrimination. This means that there is no legal basis preventing restaurants, stores, public transit, or even hospitals from denying access to individuals based on their gender identity. Freedom Massachusetts believes that a resident’s zip code should not determine their level of freedom, and is supporting a bill that provides commonsense anti-discrimination protections to all residents of Massachusetts.
Winning Connections is a proud supporter of their mission, and humbled to work with them on behalf of members of the LGBT community. We too, believe in the importance of the simple statement: treat others the way you’d like to be treated.
