Case Study

Michigan Reproductive Health Act

We hosted a telephone town hall with Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan and Governor Gretchen Whitmer to engage and interact with supporters of the Reproductive Health Act.

Challenge

With women’s right to choose under attack federally, pro-choice advocates have felt an urgency to provide protections at the state level. When the Reproductive Health Act was introduced in Michigan, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan (PPAM) and Governor Gretchen Whitmer acted quickly to hold a telephone town hall to engage and interact with Planned Parenthood members.

Our Role

PPAM reached out to Winning Connections to host the telephone town hall meeting with Governor Whitmer as a special guest, and we jumped on the opportunity to work for this worthy cause. We reached out to almost 20,000 Planned Parenthood members across Michigan to join and included an online presentation for participants of the call to follow. During the event, we took audience questions and polled participants to find volunteers.

Outcome

PPAM was pleased with the results of the telephone town hall as it provided an opportunity to connect with their members and add critical activists for the Reproductive Health Act push. Winning Connections facilitated a jam-packed, energetic forum that highlighted both the crucial work of PPAM as well as the benefit of having a women’s health champion like Governor Whitmer leading the state. For our efforts, we were given the “Best Telephone Town Hall” award at the 2020 Campaigns & Elections Magazine Reed Award ceremony.
