Thousands gathered to discuss the establishment of a new National Monument in the North Maine Woods. Winning Connections worked with Pew Charitable Trusts to promote attendance at this critical meeting.
To promote the forum, Winning Connections called thousands of residents around Orono, Maine, near the North Woods. In the one-on-one conversation, Mainers were reminded of the importance of protecting this great natural resource and outdoor recreation area for future generations. Winning Connections then encouraged everyone to make their voices heard at a public forum hosted by U.S. Senator Angus King and Obama administration officials.
PEW and their allies in this effort hoped hundreds might attend, but after Winning Connections’ call campaign – over 1,000 Mainers showed up to support the National Monument. After years of advocacy, President Obama designated the North Woods as a new national monument, officially conserving these lands for years to come.
