Getting Out the Vote in the Southwest’s Reservations

We worked with Engineering New Mexico’s Future to encourage voting on Native American reservations in New Mexico and Arizona.

Challenge

Many barriers lower Native-American voting participation. Engineering New Mexico’s Future sought to increase voting on Native-American reservations in the American Southwest, and in turn, strengthen our representative democracy. Our campaign did not have a partisan objective; the goal was simply to increase turnout in Native-American communities so their voices would be heard.

Our Role

In 2018, Winning Connections collaborated with Engineering New Mexico’s Future, delivering three rounds of interactive texts to over 23,000 Native Americans on reservations in Arizona and New Mexico.

Outcome

Our texts increased voter participation by providing poll hours, locations, and logistical information, and turnout hit record levels among Native-American communities.
