The Oregon Legislature was considering HB 2020, a bill that wouldestablish a cap and trade system to limit carbon emissions from the state’s top polluters. The revenue from the program would then go to protect clean air and water and create new clean energy jobs.
We worked with an environmental coalitionto send thousands of calls tolawmakers urging them to vote to pass HB 2020. Constituents told their representatives they were counting on them to hold a vote and to vote in favor of immediate climate action.
The bill garnered a majority in the legislature. Opponents of the bill, however, fled the state. Without a quorum, the bill ended up not getting a vote.We lost the battle, but we will be back.
