In conservative Kentucky, Governor Matt Bevin’s unpopularity presented an enticing opportunity for a Democratic pickup in the state’s off-year gubernatorial election.
We worked with the independent political action committee Kentucky Family Values, texting a universe of about 57,000 Kentucky voters twice. We determined if the voter cared more about healthcare or education and followed up with a targeted persuasive message.
Andy Beshear’s victory was the biggest upset of the 2019 election cycle. He won by just over 5,000 votes. Our strategy played out in the final results with lowered GOP margins in western Kentucky and winning margins in the eastern suburbs.
