Everyone knows oysters make a great meal, but they also play a critical role in water quality. This is why it was important for Maryland legislators to pass The Sustainable Oyster Harvest Act (HB1603/SB937). This bill requires the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Sciences to identify sustainable harvest rates for the Chesapeake Bay. It would prevent over-harvesting, and improve the overall health of the Bay.
Winning Connections was pleased to assist the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s advocacy for this bill. Together we mobilized constituents to speak with their legislators about the importance of sustaining oysters in the Chesapeake Bay.
