Since 1977, healthcare professionals in Illinois have been allowed to withhold information and treatment options from patients just because it might conflict with their own religious beliefs. Thankfully, with the Governor’s signature on the Health Care Right of Conscience Act, patients in Illinois will be entitled to hear all of their options when making personal medical decisions, not just the options that fit with their doctor’s beliefs.
Winning Connections is proud to have worked with the ACLU and Planned Parenthood to put pressure on Governor Rauner and we appreciate the kind words that ACLU Illinois’ Director of Communications and Public Policy Ed Yohnka had to say about our collaboration.
“We were so pleased to work on this project with Winning Connections. Throughout months of legislative advocacy (and then urging the Governor to sign the bill) the team was responsive, creative, timely and helpful. This measure needed every advantage and Winning Connections was certainly a critical part of the effort.”
Throughout the course of this project, we connected 2,000 citizens of Illinois to the Governor’s office to demand that patients across the state be fully-informed. We’re happy to see the Governor made the right decision for the health of his constituents and we look forward to working with organizations as principled as the ACLU and Planned Parenthood in the future.
