On Tuesday, August 7, John Conyers won his 24th consecutive Democratic Primary in Michigan, continuing his stint as the 2nd longest serving Congressman in office. After GOP-led redistricting stretched Congressman Conyers' district away from his safe, urban home of Detroit and into the suburbs, many believed that the opportunity was ripe for challengers to unseat the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee. 

On April 18, the EPA issued new rules that would regulate air pollution that is caused by fracking and drilling for natural gas and oil. Of the over 13,000 fracking wells drilled annually, only about half have measures to contain dangerous pollutants that can cause asthma attacks and cancer. In places like rural Wisconsin, smog levels have been reported to be higher than downtown Los Angeles due to the massive influx of fracking sites in the past four years.
